Krystal Fortney has experience in providing leadership to various programs for the state of TN. She currently serves as the Director of Youth and Young Adult Initiatives, for Tennessee State Government overseeing mental health programs and federal and state funding. She has provided leadership to the First Episode Psychosis Initiative (FEPI) and the Clinical High Risk for Psychosis (CHR-P), as well as providing support for the Healthy Transitions (HT) staff. In addition, Krystal has provided oversight to the Certified Young Adult Peer Support Specialist (CYAPSS) program and Young Adult Leadership Council (YALC). Krystal is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has been working with the early psychosis population since 2016. Krystal is working on her Doctorate in Counseling Education and Supervision and is expected to graduate in 2025. Krystal and the Youth and Young Adult team have been leading the way in early psychosis and have been called upon to present to national audiences by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Krystal has a passion for the professional development of counselors and is a National Certified Counselor and an Approved Clinical Supervisor. Krystal’s professional goals include learning about the complete landscape of mental health services to be well-rounded and understand how systems work together. Krystal has a unique background in understanding mental health programming from a fiscal, contractual, grant management, program evaluation, and outreach perspective. Krystal has built her own company from the ground up and self-published a journal through her business.
